Fellowship Program

Research Areas
We support researchers using rigorous scientific methods and open science practices to explore how subtle energy, biofield therapies, and consciousness-based healing can deepen our understanding of health and healing.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Fellowship, the applicant must be a graduate student (e.g., Master’s, PhD), post-doctoral fellow, or junior faculty not past their fifth year of university appointment. This also includes researchers with up to five cumulative years of experience as an independent investigator, research scientist, associate, or in similar positions. If you have questions about eligibility, please contact us. Note that we only permit one proposal per applicant per cycle.
Mentorship and Community
As well as financial support, fellows will be connected with an expert mentor aligned with their research topic, and will be integrated into the expanding research community committed to investigating biofields. Fellowship benefits include:
Regular one-on-one scientific, methodological, and academic guidance, feedback on study design, analysis, and interpretation, and assistance with navigating institutional barriers that often come with exploring frontier topics.
Quarterly community meetings with other fellows that offer a space for support, feedback, reflection, and idea incubation.
Research convenings with experts in the field from top-tier universities and institutions to explore frontier ideas and research projects.
Free attendance to the invite-only Subtle Energy Funders Collective annual research conference.
Fellowship Commitments & Expectations
Complete the funded project within 12–18 months.
Publish research findings in a peer-reviewed journal.
Attend an annual conference organised by the Subtle Energy Funders Collective (SEFC).
Present results at an SEFC Research Convening or the annual conference.
Participate actively in mentorship and community activities.
About the Fellowship
The Consciousness and Energy Fellowship Program supports early career investigators advancing our understanding of subtle energy modalities, biofield science, and consciousness-based healing, cultivating a new generation of rigorous researchers in this emerging field. To foster responsible growth, the program provides funding, mentorship, and community, recognizing that early career scientists need structured support to build strong academic foundations.
We view the study of subtle energy, biofield therapies,, and consciousness-based healing modalities as promising contributors to human health and healing. Just as mindfulness, acupuncture, and psychedelic-assisted therapy advanced through sustained, evidence-driven field building, subtle energy and biofield approaches can follow a similar trajectory toward meaningful integration into healthcare. The Fellowship Program provides the funding, mentorship, and community needed to accelerate responsible, high-quality field building.
Application for the 2026 Consciousness and Energy Research Fellowship are due by April 3, 2026.
Funding and Grant Details
Four grants of up to $50,000 are awarded on a biennial basis. Applications are open to diverse disciplines including psychology, neuroscience, medicine, physiology, physics, engineering, and the social sciences. Priority is given to interdisciplinary proposals examining biofield therapies and consciousness-based healing in cognitive, behavioral, physiological, clinical, or socio-cultural contexts. Studies that attempt to clarify the mechanisms of healing through rigorous basic science investigations are also highly encouraged.
